I ’m in my studio sitting on a mat in a meditation posture, journal by my side, thinking about resolutions:
#1 – Try new yoga positions.
If could, I would. Everybody says it’s great. The only thing yoga about me is the mat I’m sitting on and the tee-shirt I’m wearing that says : “Yoga or Bust.” Score one for me. I have the bust. Scratch the yoga.
#2 – Break bad habits.
I’m not giving up my glasses of champagne or margaritas. So, forget that! Stop biting my nails. I don’t do that. Move on.
#3 – Try something new.
I write bungee jumping, skydiving, rock climbing, etc. I scratch them out. I write: Try something ALL NEW on the menu. Shop the new store at the mall. Absolutely! Score another for me.
#4 – De-clutter.
Hmmmmm. I’ll go through my wardrobe and give away blouses, dresses, jewelry and shoes I haven’t worn in 10 years – well, maybe15 years. With all this new space I can buy more clothes. Hooray New Year’s resolutions!
#5 – Do something good for yourself each day.
Easy. I will either meditate or watch the sun rise rather than TV news.
#6 – Think less, love more.
Ram Dass said, “The heart surrenders everything to the moment. The mind judges and holds back.” Note in journal: I’ll go with the heart.
#7 – Don’t seek revenge.
Written and underlined! Let that emotion go!!!!!!!! It’s an old, moldy chestnut. It hurts you, not them. They don’t even know you’re thinking about them.
#8 – Buy clothes that make your friends think you lost weight.
I love this one. Vertical, never horizontal, stripes across the butt. Never a size smaller, always a size larger. Short sleeves only if arms are firm. Strong colors. Don’t be dowdy. Don’t be too young. Find the middle ground. My training manual.
# 9 – Pet animals as often as possible.
Bravo! The benefits are astounding.
# 10 – Think of shopping as exercise. The more you do, the healthier you’ll be.
# 11 – Laugh as much as possible.
No argument. Good exercise for stomach muscles and the soul.
# 12 – Spend 10 minutes a day doing nothing.
Can also count as meditation – extra karma brownie points.
Doing great, Sylvia. Here comes the next one.
# 13 – Never miss the chance to let someone know you admire them or love them.
More good karma!
# 14 – Never believe you can’t dance.
Sylvia, yes, you can! You can move in place can’t you? Don’t give me any of that “bad knee” baloney!
# 15 – Never think you’re too old to believe in Santa Claus.
Without magic, what’s life?
I put my journal down and patted myself on the back. I’m good at this.
But if I can’t keep all these promises all the time, I’ll be gentle with myself. Life is not a done deal. It’s a journey. Let the wild ride continue!!!!
Have a happy 2018 and remember, be open to mystery!
